Padma Nilaya
School of body and spirit renewal

Mysuru · Ashtanga · Gurukula
Padma Nilaya receives students from every country at the foot of Chamundi Hills. South Indian practice: body, breath, silence and service. Sattvic meals, simple cells, arati fire at dusk.
Chamundi Hills · Mysuru · Karnataka · South India
Mysore-style Ashtanga, hatha and pranayama in a teak hall open to the garden.
Ayurvedic rhythm: abhyanga, herbs, silence, sleep before 21:00.
Beginners and advanced. Visa notes, Bengaluru transfer, room and meals.
Place
Red tiles, ochre walls, carved pillars and a banyan. Padma Nilaya sits on the southern edge of Mysuru, twelve minutes from the palace and Chamundeshwari temple. The city of yoga — we keep that climate: spare, warm, Hindu.
A copper Om shrine, a wood-fire kitchen, a well, a rain pavilion. Students sleep in modest rooms facing palms. Not a wellness hotel — a gurukula that hosts travellers.

Lens
Dawn terrace, teak shala, banana-leaf kitchen, arati fire. Click a frame to open it.
Letters home
“I came for asana and left with a quieter spine. The 4:40 tea, the teak hall, the lamps at dusk — a practice I can keep.”
Maya R. · Berlin · 28 days
“Not a resort. A house with a well and a teacher who sees your knee before you speak. Mysore still feels like yoga’s hometown.”
Arjun K. · Bengaluru · 90 days
“Banana-leaf breakfast, rain on terracotta, one arati that opened my chest. I will return for three months.”
Sophie L. · Lyon · winter light
“Mysore-style held with kindness. Private sessions healed a shoulder I had written off. The silence after 21:00 is medicine.”
Kenji S. · Kyoto · 14 days
“Garden seva, Sanskrit in the evening, sattvic food that did not feel like a diet. My mother would recognize this house.”
Amrita D. · Amritsar · monsoon
“Chamundi at dawn from the terrace. I still hear the tanpura when I sit at home. Padma Nilaya gave me a rhythm, not a holiday.”
Elena V. · São Paulo · 28 days
Groups
Each group has a teacher and an assistant. Bring a mat or use ours. Mixed levels with intelligent variations.

Self-paced sequence under gurukula eyes. Led, primary, intermediate.
Slower asana, hand detail, belts and blocks, spine work.
Nadi shodhana, bhramari, quiet sitting by the shrine.
Lamps, Om Namah Shivaya, shared namaskaram. Guests welcome.
Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutra, questions. Tulsi tea.
Devaraja market, Chamundi, garden silence.

Gurukula
For injury return, therapeutic sequence, or teacher preparation. An hour with a senior, not an app.
Spine, shoulders, knees, asthmatic breath. Plans of 10 or 21 sessions.
Kumbhaka chosen for constitution (vata / pitta / kapha).
Hand arrangements, japa, Gayatri — quietly, without a stage.
Shala assisting, adjustments, gurukula ethics.
Seasons
We receive the whole world. A deposit holds the bed. Fly to Bengaluru (BLR), 3.5 h transfer.
Rhythm
The same spine every day. Photos below are from this house — not a brochure set. Sunday: no shala, market or garden silence.

4:40
The kitchen lamp is the first light. Ginger-tulsi in steel tumblers. No talking until after asana. Cool well-water on the face, then the terrace toward Chamundi.

5:15
Primary and intermediate under gurukula eyes. The teak hall opens to the garden. Adjustments are quiet. Sweat, breath, the hill still dark. Led class twice a week.

7:45
Idli or rice, sambar, coconut chutney, buttermilk. Seated on the floor. The leaf is folded and offered back. Tea if the body asks — not as a café.

9:30
Watering jasmine, kitchen prep, copying a sutra, or sleep. The ashram is not a spa — the house needs hands. Beginners rest; residents take a duty.

12:30
Rice, two vegetables, rasam or sambar, pickle, curd. No onion, no garlic, no leftover night food. Then a short rest — not a screen. Phones stay in the office box.

16:30
Nadi shodhana, bhramari, then twenty minutes of stillness by the copper Om. A mudra chosen with the teacher. This hour is the heart of the day.

18:45
Lamps, camphor, Om Namah Shivaya. The courtyard fills. Guests who wrote ahead may stand at the back. The fire is not a show — it closes the work.

19:15
Khichdi or fruit and milk. Saturday: Gita or Yoga Sutra satsang and tulsi tea. Conversation is allowed, raised voices are not.

21:00
Oil lamp, mosquito net, palms at the window. Sleep is part of the practice. The gate is shut. Dawn will come again at 4:40.
